Looking for temporary or longer-term room to rent [May. 10th, 2009|12:32 pm]

Hello, all--my husband and I (and two turtles) are planning to relocate from Seattle to Austin in June. Our housesharing plans fell through because our friends had some things come up and now need the room we were going to rent. We're looking for either a room we can rent through the summer (possibly longer) or even crash space we can rent for a few weeks while we find a sublet after we get there.

We do have local friends who can come by and vouch for the fact that we're not serial killers or raving hysterics.

It would be preferable if the house were near a bus line and didn't require my running up and down stairs all day, as I have a messed-up hip. We can deal with one or two cats, allergy wise; we're all right with smallish dogs but sometimes have allergy problems with great big dogs that shed a lot. We'll probably be driving into Austin a lot, so it would be helpful if the house were within reasonable distance of the city. I don't care about cable but high-speed Internet access is essential if we're going to be there for more than a few weeks. It must be a non-smoking house (sorry; allergies.)

I am a science-fiction editor, and my job is portable. My husband is a software developer and will be job-hunting. I make enough to keep us from running out of the ability to pay the rent on in a shared house while he's job-hunting.

Other info about us: We're social and love to cook and feed people but also spend a lot of time working on our laptops. We love animals. We read an awful lot. We play board games. We're poly/pagan/alt friendly and while we're pretty low-key and conventional in our own lives, we figure basically that if it's between consensual adult humans and doesn't end up with anyone in jail or the hospital, it's none of our business. We won't be cooking red meat in the house but we do eat chicken and fish. We have a strong interest in intentional community but right now we're just looking for a place to land for a few months (or longer if everyone's happy with the setup.)

Please feel free to browse around our LJs (my husband is ihgreenman) or contact me offlist to get more information on us, since presumably you want to know something about people you might rent to. My computer is sick today so I might not respond right away. Thank you!

If you're looking for a sublet, a friend of mine needs to move out. It's a spacious 1 bedroom apartment for $728/month. Message/email me... some more info is on my LJ.
